Animation scripts are built to be seen, not just read. Over five focused weeks you’ll learn to write visually, shape story with economy, and work the way studios work. You’ll draft, test, revise, and present your script with continuous feedback, structured script meetings, and a live showcase in the Aardman Cinema.

All tutors are working writers and directors from within Aardman’s network, supported by the Academy’s academic team. They’re trained in teaching and feedback practice to make sure each session is creative, structured and supportive.

There are no formal exams. Assessment is through your final script, active participation, and your readiness to develop projects independently. Graduates receive an Aardman Academy Certificate of Completion and a recording of their live read-through for their portfolio.

We request that everyone taking part in this course has their own laptop or tablet.

We will provide all participants with their own copy of Final Draft at the start of the course to install on their personal machine. 

We will allow you to access our wifi for the duration of the course!

No prior writing credits are required — just energy and openness to feedback.

We review applications on a rolling basis until the course is full. Early application is recommended.

Do I need to be in Bristol for the full 5 weeks?
Yes, this is an in-person studio course based at Aardman Academy, Bristol. However, you may choose to only be in the studio in-person Monday and Tuesday. We can't offer any discounts for those choosing hybrid learning.

How big are the groups?
Typically 10–20 participants to allow for individual feedback.

Will my script be performed?
Yes. Each student’s script will be read by professional actors at the Week 5 graduation event.

What’s included in the fee?
All teaching, studio access, screenings, Final Draft software, materials, and actor participation for the live read-through.
